Apple Crisp

Recently someone told me that I should not take for granted that everyone makes the recipes that I find common. So today I am sharing with you my Apple Crisp Recipe. This one is just from my noggin I have been making it this way since I was a kid.

Apple Crisp
1 5lb bag Macintosh apples peeled, cored, and sliced
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 sticks of butter (1 cup) cold and cut into small cubes
preheat oven to 350 degrees

Peeling apples is therapy for me, I just get into my little peeling world, and before I know it 5 pounds of apples peeled, cored and sliced. I bought one of those apple peeler slicer corer doo-hickys once, I hated it. I gave it to a friend. I actually timed myself to see which was faster...me or the doo-hicky. The good old fashioned knife won! With way less mess. But if you have this doo-hicky and love it kudos to youdos!

Add flour, brown sugar, oatmeal and spices into your food processor, give it a few pulses. If you do not have a food processor no fear I made the crumble for this crisp with a fork for years.
A pastry cutter works well too.

Now add the cold, cubed butter, pulse until a nice even consistency.

Pour the crumble over the apples. Pat down and give dish a bit of a shake, you want the crumble to fall down between the apples a little bit.

Place in oven for 45 minutes. Take out and let cool slightly before serving.

Zooming in for a closer look.

This is my comfort food. I love to eat the leftovers for breakfast. Yes that is my breakfast up there, well minus the ice cream. My sweet Seestor ran herself crazy in her first half marathon yesterday, so I made her dinner and Apple Crisp with Ree's Maple Cream Sauce for dessert. Yes my seestor is a runner. If it weren't for her love of Apple Crisp I would question that she is really even from my gene pool. I cannot run. I hate to run. If I had to run to save my own life, I would die. I might be able to run to save my children....I hope...OK lets not go there.......

I have to tell you Friday is the one year anniversary of me starting this goofy blog and I have an AMAZING giveaway lined up.....SO EXCITED I can barely contain myself!!!! So please come back and send your friends and family....share the love of this Anniversary Giveaway...coming soon....maybe tomorrow, if not.... for sure on Wednesday!

LuvYA!

  6. I would eat that apple crisp for breakfast, too. A little icecream never hurt anyone, either. :)

  8. Mmmm ... what could be better than apple crisp! I'll have to try it with the maple cream sauce next time. Other than that, I make it pretty much exactly how you do, except I add one "secret ingredient"... ground ginger.
