the PW project CONTINUES...

After tonight I will have 16 recipes left to cook! Sweet 16! Ree if you are out there, PW if you are reading.....it has been a blast! All my family and friends are loving that I am cooking my buns off (or more literally cooking my buns ON).

Although, this morning at the breakfast table when tonight's menu was announced, Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Taters, PW's artery clogging gravy, AND Peach Crisp with Maple Cream Sauce! Cece, my 7 year old, slammed her head on the counter and whined "nooooooo, I don't like my steak with chicken on it!". "But Uncle Skidder is coming for dinner and is stayin to watch American Idol", that one didn't even pull her out of her misery.

Poor kid. Life is tough!

Last night I made P-Dubs Simple, Perfect Chili. That it is! It was crazy easy. You do need to purchase masa(corn flour, found in the Mexican food section of your local grocier), I had never used masa until I started cooking with Ree.

Yes, I just said cooking WITH Ree. I am not delusional, I AM cooking through her cookbook. So in my own little universe... I am allowed to say "cooking with" Ree.

Anyway......I love what masa does to chili, it gives it an added something er another that you just can't put your finger on, but you know it's different and GOOD!

Ree's recipe says you can add beans and tomatoes to it, making it more like the chili we normally eat out of a bowl. I thought it would be good on hot dogs! YUM, I do love me a good chili dog. Now don't freak out on me for eating hot dogs. I bought the all natural Kosher brand.

Although I did eat hot dogs raw out of the package as a kid....UGH! I can't believe I just told you that.

YES, is that not disgusting??? I would run around eating a raw hot dog like it was licorice or something. Mom , what were you thinking dear lady?

This was our dinner spread...all beef Hebrew National Kosher hot dogs with Ree's "perfect chili", cheese and onions for toppings, potato wedges, and chocolate malteds made with my favorite Ovaltine (8 vitamins and minerals!). Oh Yeah Baby!

Unfortunately, I have leftovers that are calling my name from the depths of my over stuffed fridge.....oooh chili dogs for lunch and Chicken Fried Steak for supper. I don't know if the "pant size" part of the deal is gonna hold up. No worries, there will be a drawing whether my pants fit or not!

I CAN'T WAIT to see who gets THE book! Comment on any Ree Project Post and this could be yours!

LuvYa!

  10. Yeah the eating hot dogs cold is pretty gross. Back to the chili, the debate continues. Should chili have noodles or not?

  11. I agree with you Sheila...the MASA is an ingredient I will NEVER go w/out in my chili from here on foward. Getting close...I think I might be sad when it is over!

  12. Deb...well that's a new one to me noodles in chili! Are you from Ohio? Is that a Cincinnati thing? Maybe I have heard of it, it's all coming back to me..... I have never tried it, but of course I will try anything once.

  13. Ooooo, is that a carton of Hudsonville ice cream in the background of the second to last photo. That is the best, creamiest ice cream ever. Now I am craving it.

  19. I am a chili fanatic. Every Monday night in my house is Chili night. While I start with the same basic recipe every time I have never had two identical pots. They always reflect my feelings at the time and the ingredients on hand. Sometimes spicier, sometimes not. Always flavorful. Long live Chili!
