This Friday is the ONE year Anniversary of my
first post on Strawberry CAKE.
Yipee-WOOhoo!
Because I luv ya, I wanted to do a GIVEAWAY, and it turns out it's going to be a double whammy! I still cant believe that anyone besides my first two commenter's (thank you Heather and Big D) even reads this stuff..... I want to say Thank You for coming over here, it makes me so happy when you do.
I am a huge fan of Jaden Hairs blog Steamy Kitchen. She has great recipes that are delicious, quick, and easy. I was a total geek when I got to meet her last week in San Francisco.
She was so sweet, she didn't mind my geek-a-tude at all. I was the first one at the book table, just in case her book sold out, and she very graciously signed two copies. One for YOU and one for ME!
We LOVE any type of Asian food in this house. Chinese, Sushi, Thai, you name it, my kids love it! Look at my boys they are looking through my new cookbook deciding what I should make first. Luke thinks I need to cook every recipe........maybe I will eventually.
Goof-ball! Who's kid is this?
More goofballs, oohing and aahing over all the yummy pictures and recipes.
The Steamy Kitchen is only the first part of my the giveaway! The
second part is this print from
Redletterwords!!!!
My friend Dee is so sweet (maybe because of all the goodies she eats over here at my hacienda). When I told her I was doing the Steamy Kitchen Cookbook giveaway she said "Oh! I want to give you my new print to giveaway with it!". I was driving when she told me, I nearly went bumping over the curb I was so excited.
The verse on this print is from Hebrews 13:2. I love this verse, it reminds me of my Grandma telling me about how during the depression, even though they barely had enough to feed their own family, they never turned anyone away that happened to show up on their doorstep during dinner time, because they might be an angel!
This would look fabulous in your kitchen or dining room, I just know it! It's a good thing Dee will be sending the winner the print, because if I got my grimy paws on it it may never get to the winner.
Ok enough blabbin....here's what you need to do to be eligible to win:
1. Leave a comment below telling me what recipe you love to make when you have guests over. One comment only please.
*** if you want more than one chance to win....***
-link this giveaway to your FaceBook page
-
Check out Redletterwords site and have a look around, tell me what your favorite print is in your comment!
Because I am a night owl, I will take comments until 12pm Friday night! Then I will pick one winner randomly to win Jaden Hair's
Steamy Kitchen Cookbook AND the above 12x12 cafe mount print from
Redletterwords.
Hugs to you all!
Your kids are too cute! I tend to make asian flank steak, ranch potatoes and asian cabbage salad, that is my go to meal. I love that your kids are so not picky. We need to do sushi again soon! I am coming in next week to get my car fixed, maybe then!
ReplyDeleteJust shared you on FB.
And my favorite print is, Fruit of the Spirit.
For guests: fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. ( my Mother's Sunday dinner)
ReplyDeleteTwo are better than One, love that for newly weds or any couple as far as that goes.
Your kid are great actors (hams) Ha
Dorothy
Love the pics of your kiddos! When we have company I prefer to grill because it leaves less dishes for me to clean lol.
ReplyDeleteI shared your link on FB and my favorite print is definitely Two are better then One.
I love to make ribs for guests... makes people feel instantly comfortable and relaxed, cuz they know they can get messy and it doesn't matter. lol
ReplyDeleteWell I guess it all depends on the season...so since it is fall I usually do a white chicken chili and a beef chili...because it's nice to have options and my guest love the fact that they can have both.
ReplyDeleteI also shared your link of FB
My favorite print is She Knew....New Creation, It is a great reminder that when I fall flat on my face today...he picks me up, brushes me off, and sends me into tomorrow.
My hubby usually does the cooking for entertaining but when I do it's something simple like flank steak on the grill.
ReplyDeleteAs for Red Letter Words ... "I Can do ALL things through Christ ..."
For guests we sometimes do marinated pork tenderloin with oriental cole slaw and oven roasted red skins.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Red Letter Words.... currently is For I Know the Plans I have for YOu.....
I found a recipe on Annie's Eats that's a cheesecake ball that everyone always enjoys-I serve it with Nilla Wafers. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the "Two are better than one." print! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI like to make lemon skewered chicken, roasted veggies and zucchini bread whenever we have company over.
ReplyDeleteI retreated your giveaway. We make Penne with Italian sausage and tomato cream sauce. It always makes plenty for guests and our family of 7 and tastes great with PW's buttery Rosemary rolls.
ReplyDeleteI love making oven roasted potatoes using white and sweet potatoes with herbs and parm cheese on them! So good! They go great with any grilled meat!
ReplyDeleteIs beer a recipe? I like to serve beer, in my chilli and in a can, if I really like ya-a bottle.:0}

Kalua pig or pizza!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite recipe to make is my homemade bbq with beef brisket. Nothing better then making something in the crockpot and having the smells wafting around the house for hours.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the only downside is that you're constantly drooling and hungry! :)
My go to recipe is teriyaki chicken wings on the grill. Pretty much my signature dish.
ReplyDeleteI love to make a crawfish or shrimp boil when company comes over. It's a one pot meal and to me is perfect for gatherings.

I know Jaden and she is a fabulous cook! I still don't have a copy of her book because I bought one for my Mother In Law for Christmas last year!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite print from Redletterwords is Hannah's Prayer.
ReplyDeletekowandamcbride at yahoo dot com
Rib steak on the BBQ. Even in the winter!
ReplyDeleteWhen I have guests over I love to cook a chicken dish and I've discovered several fabulous crock pot recipes that make preparation simple so I can fuss over other details. My go-to recipe is Coq Au Vin - http://mamasays.us/blog/2010/01/18/coq-au-vin/ - so yummy.
ReplyDeleteI make everyone's favorite, My Mom's Chicken Chipotle Enchiladas. I've taken my mom's recipe and adapted new flavor profiles. It's a hit every single time, it has old fans, and always makes new ones. I serve with black bean and poblano beans, and Mexican rice. I just made myself hungry!
ReplyDeleteI love to make wasabi shrimp crackers! I mix a bit of wasabi with cream cheese and spread it on rice crackers. Then I top each rice cracker with a shrimp! They're very quick to make and tasty.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on one year! I love that you are celebrating with such a fantastic contest prize!!!
ReplyDeleteHands down my go to is lobster pot pie from the barefoot contessa herself, Ina Garten. It is super easy and make ahead that people RAVE about and request regularly.
Again, Congrats on one year!
Curry! Easy and good for crowds... well crowds that like Asian food anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great blog, so glad I found it through Steamy Kitchen! Congrats on your 1 yr anniversary. PS: My 2yo is crazy for your strawberry wallpaper - LOL! In the Summer, my favorite dish to make for friends is Melt in your Mouth BBQ Ribs (found the recipe on recipezaar (now food.com). When we hold our big holiday party, I always make Italian food like Chicken Francaise and 3 cheese sausage baked ziti. Okay, now I'm hungry! ;)
ReplyDeletei'd love to have the cookbook from Jaden Hairs. big fan. :-D
ReplyDeleteand i love the Two are Better than One print! (http://www.redletterwords.com/index.cfm?action=ViewDetails&ItemID=45)
ReplyDeletei don't cook that well, but i love make pasta salads for people because it's quick& easy + tasty at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI make garlic lemon chicken because its so good with all the sauce and mopped up with crusty french bread. Its the favorite of all my visitors.
ReplyDeleteNo matter the entrée, I always love to serve freshly-made bread alongside. It's not that much extra effort, but it always lets people know that I took a little special care just for them.
ReplyDeleteI love to make flour tortillas, carne guisada, Spanish rice and refried beans! It's a meal that takes a little time to prepare but there's nothing I like more than loving my friends through my cooking.
ReplyDeletei tweeted! (http://twitter.com/noodlenthread/status/27964994746)
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, a roast chicken with potatoes, carrots & onions all done up in the same roasting pan, a deceptively easy meal for a group (it takes all of an hour!), or a great big baked pasta, so easy to adapt for no-gluten or vegan guests without sacrificing taste! I totally love Steamy Kitchen, the recipes are great (and fast!), and I'm glad to have this site, too! Also, I love that everybody's posted fall-ish meals :)
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary Sheila! I can't believe it's been a year...time sure does FLY!!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe I LOVE to make for company is Chicken Floutas...crispy outer tortilla with a cheesy chicken filling...served with gravy, home made guac, refried beans topped with cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips of course! You would LOVE it! Tracy
It rotates but lately PW's cheesy olive bread does the trick every time!
ReplyDeleteI also love to have some peanut butter bacon cookies ready (thank you joy the baker!) everyone is always so shocked by the bacon and then blown away by how yummy they are!
My husband makes the best pork BBQ and it's always a hit when we have friends over.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite print is Two are better then One.
I usually do different theme dinners depending on the occasion, guest and season. However, what I find I make most often is Lemon Chicken Kabobs with Saffron Orzo. For appetizers, I ususally do homemade potato chips and pan-fried onion dip, sausage stuffed mushrooms and a melted brie & sun-dried tomato dip. For dessert, I usually make a strawberry country cake.
ReplyDeleteMy go-to *fancy* dessert is Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding. YUM!
ReplyDeleteWith us, it depends on the guests. I am a good cook, my husband is, on the other hand a chef. He will be attending culinary school in December. We love to grill. But, most of all, we love to cook together.
ReplyDelete"You Can do ALL things through Christ ..." is my fav Print right now. I do not entertain at my house much - just too cozy, but I love a good potluck with family and friends. I love to bring a spinach dip or my grandma's homemade mac n cheese - although I still can't make it just like hers.
ReplyDeleteAs I peel back the velvety deep purple skin from this fresh fig I'm currently eating, I realize the more I cook and bake for guests, the simpler my food seems to get. I love to cook and display my 'STEAMY Kitchen' skills when my guests are present. But there is something so sweet about a pre-baked "cinnamon-y apple upside down cake", that is what I love to make. The scent of the syrupy brown sugar caramel sauce paired with hearty baked apples smells so fabulous when my guests enter the home. My cooking techniques may not be a secret, but my baking...
ReplyDeleteI usually have grilled steak and potatoes for guests. Maybe an appetizer or a dessert too. I love this cookbook! I have borrowed it 3 times from the library. Would love to own!
ReplyDelete"What can I make happen for others today?" is one of my fave prints, as it questions my motives.
ReplyDeleteOne year...Oh, my little girl is growing up...getting a big girl blog. Oh, just teasing. But boy, what a year it has been, eh? I looked back at that first post and I was ANONYMOUS! CRAZY. Well, I have to tell you every SINGLE post has been a thrill to read for me! Just a thrill.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I don't not have ONE go to dish. I do love to make "Chicken Curry with Coconuts, mango's and basil" served with a simple salad, basmati rice and naan bread. YUM. OR MEXICAN....any kind of MEXICAN.
Favorite print...I LOVE the Hebrews 13:2 print! It says it all.
OK..here is to another great year. Can't wait to see what God has in store for you and for luvstrawberrycake!
We love to do Asian Hot Pot or Japanese Yakiniku BBQ with our family or friends. I was just thinking about trying Korean BBQ and was referred to @steamykitchen for great recipes, her cookbook would be an awesome prize. Btw we are a Canadian Born Caucasian family with gluten sensitivity and have always found Asian cooking to be healthier for us.
ReplyDeleteUsually pasta! Easy, and everyone loves it.
ReplyDeleteWe usually have pasta with homemade meat sauce. It is usually what the guests request. Sometimes we even make homemade pasta.
ReplyDeleteTwo are better than one is my favorite.
I LOVE to make our smoked chicken. It's just delicious. It's one of those recipes that if you don't like it, then you must be a vegetarian. :-)

ReplyDeleteSince we raise our own pork & beef, we usually serve whatever we have on hand in our freezer. Lori Fox
My favorite winter meal is Ritz Chicken over Penne Pasta.
ReplyDeleteRedletterwords fav is actually Dee's custom work..recieved a great one highlighting vacation spots we've been to.
